Position Summary
Opportunity to join a research team studying the parasite Toxoplasma, which causes serious illness in children and people with weakened immune systems. Contribute to our drug discovery project to develop more effective treatments for chronic toxoplasmosis. Tasks include expression and purification of recombinant proteins, performing biochemical and cell-based assays to screen small molecules for inhibitory activity, basic discovery and assay development. The project involves an exciting collaborative environment where you will interact with a multidisciplinary team of biochemists, structural biologists, and medicinal chemists at Washington University in St. Louis.

Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the PI on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
- Assists with grant preparation and reporting. Assists PI in preparing grant proposals.
- Assists PI in preparing reports and manuscripts for publication.
- Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
- Complies with established safety procedures and maintaining required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
- Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with molecular cloning, protein expression and purification.
- Prior experience with protein biochemistry and analytic methods.
- Familiarity with ELISA and colorimetric enzyme assays.
- Familiarity with small molecule inhibitor studies and/or high throughput screening.
- Working knowledge of spreadsheets and statistical analyses.
- Excellent record keeping, organizational skills, and ability to interact with others.
Required Qualifications
PhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience; combination of education and experience equaling twelve years may substitute for this requirement.

Salary Range
$61,000.00 - $110,600.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
